Meet the Team

An interdisciplinary team consisted of experienced architects, artists and educators in the fields of formal and non formal education having Design as a common ground. 

He holds a first degree in Architecture (A.U.Th.), a PgD/MA in Automotive Design from the School of Art & Design, Coventry University, UK, and a PhD in the field of Industrial Design. He has been honoured a scholarship for doctoral research by the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY) and Excellence Award for doctoral research by the Research Committee of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He has extensive professional experience in automotive and industrial design with Centro Stile Alfa Romeo, Jaguar Cars Ltd, TWT GmbH, Pininfarina, SVP Worldwide and EL.V.O. (Hellenic Vehicle Industry S.A.). He was Chief Designer of the concept car Aletis for EL.V.O. and Scientific Curator of the exhibition "Transport Technology" at the Science Center and Technology Museum NOESIS. He has been teaching in the School of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki since 2000 and in the MSc in Strategic Product Design, in the School of Economics, Business Administration and Legal Studies of the International Hellenic University (IHU) since 2013. He is a Member of the Hellenic Semiotics Society and Member of the Technical Chamber of Greece. He has extensive research work, and a series of publications in Scientific Journals and conference proceedings.
He has taken numerous initiatives to promote Industrial Design and Design Thinking in Greece, such as the organization and scientific coordination of Design Workshops for Elementary Education pupils within the context of the Educational Programmes of the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art (M.M.C.A.). He is Scientific Coordinator of a Design Program to address unemployed people, organized by the M.M.C.A. and granted by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
Dr. Liamadis, author of the recently published book “Automotive Culture: Design & Styling”, has been honored the Excellence Award for the academic achievements of the year 2010-11 from the Research Committee of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

Marianna Κaltsa is an architect and artist. She holds a Diploma in Architecture from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) (2009-2014) and a Diploma in Fine Arts and Art Sciences from the University of Ioannina (2003-2008). During her studies she was awarded a scholarship from the State Scholarship Foundation and received a distinction from the Research Committee of the A.U.T. h.
Since 2010 she has been working as a chief instructor in the Lab “The world of Objects - Design for children” organised in collaboration with the lab of Industrial Design in the School of Visual and Applied Arts of the AUTh and hosted within the context of the Educational Programs of the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art (M.M.C.A.). She also worked as a planner of applications and chief instructor in Art Labs of the M.M.C.A. while today, she curates pedagogical activities for children in cooperation with various organizations. She was a member of the teaching team of the Design Lab in the Active Art Workshops for Adults organised by the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art and granted by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
Since 2015 she is a PhD candidate in the Department of Architecture AUTH as a fellow of the Onassis Foundation exploring exploring the role of Industrial Design in primary education as a bridge between STEM and the Arts.
She has worked in research programs of the AUTh. Also participated and awarded in exhibitions and competitions relating to Art, Architecture and Design.

"Design Lab for Kids" Researcher

Constantinos Moustakas was born in Thessaloniki in 1985. He is an architect and engineer, graduated with honors from the Department of Architecture of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2009-2014). He has also graduated with honors from the Department of Renovation and Restoration of Buildings of the Technological Educational Institute of Patras (2003-2008). During his studies there, he has received various scholarships from the State Scholarships Foundation (ΙΚΥ). He was valedictorian speaker in both of his graduations. Since 2005, he has been cooperating with various professors and engineers in composing and solving various scale projects. Since 2013, he has been collaborating with a renowned architectural firm, contributing and being awarded in international architectural competitions and workshops. Since 2011 he has been participating in the Lab “The world of Objects – Design for Children” organized in collaboration with the lab of Industrial Design Lab in the School of Visual and Applied Arts of the AUTh and hosted within the context of the Educational Programs of the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art (MMCA). In further collaboration with the lab, he has been a member of the team organizing the workshops “Design Ark” and “agro.design “. He has participated and was distinguished in architectural exhibitions in Greece and abroad. He is interested in composing and searching the relation between form and function in various scales.

"Design Lab for Kids" Researcher

 

Katerina has graduated with honours in Architecture Engineering (A.U.Th). Since 2007 she has been planning and implementing museum education workshops for children at the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art in Thessaloniki and since 2016 she is in charge of «Art & Architecture Lab», a museum education program which aims to explore the dynamic relationship between the two fields. She hαs trainning certificates in planning museopedagogical activities for compulsory education as wel as in ensuring equipment quality for safe playgrounds. In 2017 she started teaching at the Arkki School of Architecture for children and youth in Greece. She has collaborated with the Olympic Museum of Thessaloniki, the Experimental Art Stage, the IRIS- Municipal Non-Profit Organization and the Mandoulides Schools in theatrical plays and activities for children and youth. She has participated in several exhibitions, conferences and workshops in Greece and abroad, regarding Art, Architecture and Creative Technologies.

"Design Lab for Kids" Researcher

Athina is a licensed architect and works in the field of design and education .She holds a diploma in Architecture Engineering (Honours) and currently studying in the Department of Early Childhood Teaching & Education (A.U.Th). Her scientific research interests involve participatory design practices, industrial design and architecture education through the notion of play. She is qualified in planning and implementing pedagogical museum activities for children, for adult education and playground design. Since 2017 she is part of Arkki School of Architecture for children and youth in Greece, teaching weekly courses. She has collaborated with several European and Greek organizations curating educational programmes. During her studies and afterwards she has participated in several workshops, exhibitions and conferences.

"Design Lab for Kids" Researcher

Graduated in 2014 from the Department of Architecture of the Polytechnic School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The first substantial contact with the design was through its participation in the "Active Visual Workshops for Unemployed Citizens", organized by the  the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art and with the kind donation of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, where she attended the "Design Lab". In the workshop, she dealt with the design and construction of a functional seat of cardboard, a functional luminaire made of wood and a children's car.  At the end she participated in the exhibition of MMTT. In September 2016 she attended the Lifelong Learning Program of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, designing Educational Museums Activities for Compulsory Education. She works as an architect in the private sector. She is a member of the organizing committee of Open House Thessaloniki. From 2016 she participates as an external partner - museum educator of MMTT in the art museums "play - learn - create - design lab" for children and it concerns implementation of Design applications.

Born in 1984 in Athens. He studied Product Design at the AKTO School of Art and Design, and Fine Arts at the School of Visual and Applied Arts of the AUTH at the lab of I. Fokas where he graduated with honors. Since 2014 he lives in Japan and continues his studies at the postgraduate course «Kansei, Behavioral and Brain Science» at the University of Tsukuba with scholarship of the Japanese government.
He has worked as a designer at Athens and Thessaloniki and as an instructor in the Design Lab of the Active Art Workshops for the unemployed, organized by the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art (donation of Stavros Niarchos Foundation) and in the program “AUTH at Sundays” of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He has also worked in the research project "Design of a Automatic Single-head Embroidery Machine" run by the Industrial Design Lab of the School of Fine and Applied Arts of AUTH in cooperation with the Compucon Computer Applications S.A. for Husqvarna Viking (SVP Group) with scientific coordinator Assist. Professor George Liamadis.
He has participated in workshops and has exhibited, either as a visual artist or as a designer, at the Architecture Center of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, at the Vom Photo exhibition at the Museum of Photography of Thessaloniki and at the "Helios" Engraving Centre etc.
